19.7 Conclusions
There are several clear clinical and economic benefits of rehabilitation. Experience-driven re-learning, physical therapy, and dietary supplementation have been indicated as important rehabilitative approaches in neurorecovery post-TBI (Wieloch, & Nikolich, 2006). An important aspect of rehabilitation is addressing not only cognitive limitations, but physical and psychosocial disorders post-TBI as well. Animal studies have been moderately useful in developing rehabilitation strategies for physical and cognitive sequelae. Though for obvious reasons, it is difficult to design and execute experimental studies which examine psychosocial issues. Studies in experimental TBI are highly recommended to focus on clinically relevant treatments and interventions that are not only effective but also can be applied quickly, easily, and at a reasonable cost.
